IN THE NEWSOver the years, my Lotus Eleven has appeared in various magazines around the world.
CLASSIC AND SPORTSCAR, JUNE 1988
I was very pleased to be asked to take the car to Oulton Park, Cheshire UK, early in 1998. Willie Green, the well-known historic racer, was then the track test driver for Classic and Sportscar magazine.
I was most interested to hear from Willie that he had raced a Lotus Eleven early in his career and had fond memories of the car. I was slightly apprehensive that my car would be as delightful to drive as he had remembered but can only quote his comments;
"The steering is literally finger-light, and from turn-in to exit of a corner, it simply feels glued to the road. Neat, clean, and very, very quick, I reckon an Eleven will out-corner almost anything else in historics."
SPORTS CAR INTERNATIONAL,
In the Autumn of 1991, Mark Gillies competed in the car in a 50's sportscar event at Donington Park, Nottinghamshire UK.
Mark completed the 10 lap race without drama and came back into the pits with his impressions;
"There's no need for the arms and elbows bravura that's so much fun in earlier racing cars: decide on the wheel angle needed, select it, and keep your hands still while the car's attitude is modulated on the throttle."
Mark enjoyed his drive immensely and felt that sitting in the cockpit in such a shapely car was very evocotive;
"In a way, It's a bit like sitting in a WWII fighter because of the way the cheek-height wraparound screen encloses so completely"
SUPERCAR CLASSICS - JAPAN EDITION, AUTUMN 1993
Mark's article appeared in the Autumn 1993 Japanese Edition of Supercar Classics magazine. Written in Japanese, I am sure the article provided much enjoyment for Japanese enthusiasts of the wonderful Lotus Eleven.
